Subject: Hand In Hand: Understanding Deafblindness for Education Teams of Students Who Are Deafblind

Intended Audience: Educational teams which can include parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, therapists, administrators working with students with combined vision and hearing losses

Date: August 8, 2012

The 2012-2013 Hand In Hand class will meet October 2, 3, & 4, 2012; January 15 & 16, 2013; and April 8 & 9, 2013, at the Stoney Creek Inn in Columbia, Missouri.  The course combines self-studies, homework assignments, and action planning with onsite mentoring, and three face-to-face sessions with course instructors.  Participants will apply acquired knowledge regarding visual impairment, auditory impairment, communication, and movement to the programming of the students they serve with combined vision and hearing loss they serve.

The minimum number of participants on a team is two and at least one member must be the student's teacher.  Parents are encouraged to participate.  Team members - with the exceptions of parents - are responsible for their own travel costs, meals, and housing.  The Missouri Deafblind Project will reimburse parents for mileage, hotel, and meals.  College credit is available.
