Intended Audience:   Students in Missouri schools Grades 6-12 with visual impairment and their parents/guardians  

Date:  October 21, 2011

Missouri School for the Blind is offering a free student/parent weekend November 12-13, 2011, focusing on assistive technology including:

*       Screen Readers

*       Refreshable Braille Displays

*       Braille Notetakers

*       Braille and Tactile Graphics Production (Tiger and Juliet embossers) 

*       Video Magnifiers (PEARL and Sapphire Portable Video Magnifier)

During the weekend, students and their parents will:

1)      Explore various types of adaptive technology

2)      Learn about new technology and where it can be purchased or borrowed

3)      Identify technology that may be helpful in their everyday lives

4)      Feel more confident and comfortable explaining their technology needs and know how to request       adaptations and assistance

5)      Make new social connections through activities with peers with vision loss
