Training Information

DESE is updating the Office of Childhood’s online on-demand training and adding them into the MOPD system for users to complete. As new versions become available in the MOPD System, the outdated version we be removed from this page. Please see detailed MOPD Instructions on Taking an E-Learning Course to complete new training directly within the MOPD System.

Caregivers in licensed child care facilities are required to receive 12 clock hours of training approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) from January 1 to December 31 each year.

Clock Hour Training Requirements
  • All caregivers are required to obtain a Missouri Professional Development (MOPD) Identification (ID) for tracking training. You may obtain your MOPD ID by creating an account in the MOPD system.
  • Log in to the MOPD System to find and take clock hour training. 
  • All clock hour training must be approved by DESE’s Office of Childhood. All trainings found in the MOPD System have been approved for DESE training requirements or clock hours.
  • Online training records are sent to the MOPD System weekly so you should see the record on the training report by the end of the week following the completion of a training.  
  • Clock hours cannot be earned while in ratio with children.
  • Online modules cannot be used for group training.
  • Each completed module can only be counted once a year.
  • DESE does not provide certificates to verify training completion. All training records must be in the MOPD system.
  • Trainings must be completed one at a time. If an individual completes multiple trainings at a time, credit will be denied.

  • Trainings must be completed on a computer or laptop. They are not formatted to be mobile-friendly so they will not function fully on a cell phone or tablet device.
  • Be patient as some videos may take time to load, depending on your internet speed.
  • Your name and MOPD ID number must match or the record will not be imported.

Inclusion 411: Module 1 - Getting Started with Inclusion in a Child Care Setting
1.0 Clock Hour
This module is designed to help child care providers include children with special needs and disabilities in community child care programs with children who are typically developing. You’ll explore what inclusion is and isn’t, consider some of the benefits of fully including children with special needs in your program, and explore some of the challenges of including children with special needs and disabilities.
Inclusion 411: Module 2 - Integrating Inclusive Practices in Child Care Settings
1.25 Clock Hours
This module identifies the keys to building an inclusive program, describes how to work as a team to meet the unique needs of each child, and illustrates types of planned interventions that can be used in supporting a child with special needs.
Inclusion 411: Module 3 - What Families Need to Know About Inclusion in a Child Care Setting
1.0 Clock Hour
In this module, families and child care providers learn what to expect from an inclusive program, basic ADA requirements for child care programs, how to locate an inclusive child care program, and what conversations families and child care providers should have when enrolling a child with special needs. Child care providers will gain a better understanding of the concerns of families of children with special needs and be better able to serve them.
Inclusion 411: Module 4 - Reframing: A New Way to Look at Social Emotional Development and Challenging Behaviors
1.75 Clock Hours
Child care providers will gain understanding and confidence in reframing their own attitudes and feelings in working with children with challenging behaviors, learn to help children communicate and get along with others in a safe and inclusive environment, and learn how to incorporate activities promoting social and emotional development into the daily routine. This module includes ideas, strategies and activities that can be immediately implemented in a child care program.
Inclusion 411: Module 5 - The Americans with Disabilities Act and Accommodations in the Child Care Setting
1.5 Clock Hours
In this module child care providers will be introduced to the foundations for inclusion in early care and education, basic IDEA and ADA requirements, considerations for enrolling a child with special needs, and accommodations used to include children with special needs in child care settings. Child care providers will understand their responsibility in making accommodations as required by the ADA and will learn strategies to meet some of the ADA requirements.

Clock Hour Training Review

Clock hour training is reviewed and verified during inspections.

  • All completed training must be on the MOPD System training report.
  • Child care owners/directors need to claim their organization in the MOPD System in order to access training reports for their staff.
  • The MOPD System will automatically calculate and re-distribute training hours to ensure caregivers make up any training hours missed in previous years before accumulating hours for the current year. 
Child Care Health Consultation Program Services

The Child Care Health Consultation (CCHC) Program is a collaborative program between the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office of Childhood and Local Public Health Agencies (LPHAs) throughout Missouri to enhance health and safety practices in the child care setting. CCHC program services for child care providers and the children in their care are provided at little or no cost to child care providers, therefore giving the opportunity for all child care providers to care for their children in the safest and healthiest environments possible. Services provided by the CCHC program include health issue trainings for child care providers to assist them in meeting their annual training requirements, consultations with child care providers regarding health and safety issues at their child care facility, and health promotions for children in child care that encourage safe and healthy behaviors and are delivered with fun and developmentally appropriate presentations and materials.
